The USS Hornet, which is now a museum docked in Alameda, California, recuperated the 3 Apollo 11 astronauts– Neil A. Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin– and their Command Module Columbia from the very first moon landing objective after splashdown about 900 miles southwest of Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean on July 24, 1969.

To honor its function, the Hornet on Saturday, July 20, 2019, will host a Splashdown Event that will commemorate the 5 Apollo objectives from 1968-1969, leading up to and consisting of Apollo11
