- Nearly 35,000 seasonal workers were converted to permanent after the 2021 holiday season, UPS says.
- The delivery company says 80% of seasonal positions don’t require an interview.
Delivery drivers are in demand — and UPS is gearing up for a busy holiday season by seeking more than 100,000 seasonal employees.
UPS noted Wednesday that 80% of its seasonal positions don’t require an interview, according to a press release.
The company is offering both full- and part-time seasonal openings for package handlers, drivers, and driver helpers, the release reads.
The hiring plan comes as traditional shopping for the holidays usually picks up around October, but this year inflation is influencing shoppers to hunt for deals even earlier, the 360 Blog reports.
A full-time UPS delivery driver makes an average of $95,000 annually plus an extra $50,000 in benefits, the company says.
Despite their nearly six-figure salaries, drivers have complained about working in brutal conditions without air conditioning inside their trucks.
Although the new UPS positions are only temporary, the company says that 35,000 seasonal employees earned permanent positions after the 2021 holiday season.
“We have made our hiring process as simple and easy as possible,” said Nando Cesarone, executive vice president and US operations president.
The company boasts a particularly fast hiring process — an applicant need only wait 25 minutes after submitting an application to receive an offer, according to Yahoo News.
UPS competitor Amazon has tightened its delivery operations as of late. The e-commerce giant shut down two Baltimore facilities in September and is pressing pause on opening a 700,000-square-foot Nebraska facility, Insider reports.
