In April 2018, Dr. Ellen Stofan ended up being the very first female selected as the John and Adrienne Mars Director of the Smithsonian’s National Air and Area Museum.

From 2013 through 2016 Dr. Stofan was Chief Researcher at NASA where she worked as the princpal consultant to then NASA Administrator Charles Bolden on NASA’s tactical preparation and programs.

Dr. Stofan made her bachelor’s degree in geology at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and her master’s and postgraduate degrees at Brown University, both in geological sciences. While completing her postgraduate degree, Stofan signed up with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) as a post-doctoral fellow and ended up being the deputy task researcher for the Magellan Objective to Venus.

Ellen’s research study concentrates on the geology of Venus, Mars, Saturn’s moon Titan, and Earth. She states her preferred objective was Cassini, mainly due to the fact that of her interest in Titan.
