Tonight we are happy to invite Corey Gray, Lead Operator at the LIGO Hanford Observatory. Corey made double Bachelor’s degree degrees in Physics and Applied Mathematics from Humboldt State (part of the California State University.) He signed up with Caltech and LIGO in 1998 and belongs to the group whose creators were granted the Nobel Reward for Physics in 2017.

In 2015 following the detection of the very first gravitational waves by LIGO, Corey, a member of the Siksika Country (Northern Blackfoot) of Alberta, Canada, determined a chance for his mama, Sharon Yellowfly, to equate the upcoming LIGO news release revealing the detection into Blackfoot, a native language. This showed to be especially tough considering that Blackfoot is an agglutinative language (i.e., words are developed out of morphemes, little linguistic foundation,) and a lot of the clinical and astrohpysical terms utilized had no direct matching word or expression in Blackfoot. However, a complete translation was finished by Sharon soon prior to the main statement was made, and ever since she has actually equated an extra 5 news release revealing LIGO discoveries.
