A truck driver in the UK quit his job minutes after finding out that he and his wife had both won the lottery.

Tony Hedley, 68, and his wife Christine both had winning tickets worth £166,666, or around $210,000, in the People’s Postcode Lottery, the BBC reported.

Hedley, from Newcastle, was in his truck when he received the call telling him he had won.

Minutes after receiving the news, Hedley called his employer and told them: “I’m not coming in tomorrow, and this is my last shift.

“I got back to the base, I dropped the trailer off, and my manager said, ‘you lucky sod,’ shook my hand and wished me all the best.”

Hedley, who has driven a truck for 42 years, said, per The Independent: “I’ve been working all my life, and I think it’s time I had a break. When they revealed the envelope, it was just surreal.”

The couple plan to use their winnings to renovate their bathroom and garden and enjoy a vacation to Scotland.

They also intend to use the money to help their family, which includes two children, four grandchildren, and their great-grandchild, who is soon to be born.

Christine Hedley, 65, a teaching assistant, said it was surreal when lottery workers arrived with the winning ticket.

“I couldn’t believe it. I just cried,” she said. “It’s still unbelievable; I wake up in the morning and think, ‘did I dream that?”

“It’s lovely to know that we can just relax and live life for us now,” she said.
